MSc AI/DS Program Intro

Welcome to the introduction of SIAI's lecture notes for MSc AI/Data Science Program.

Program intro

MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science – MSc AI/DS program is a master level training for computational science, an academic discipline known as Artificial Intelligence. The essence of the program lies in deep mathematical and statistical modeling that requires heavy computational support. The math topics are graph theory, information theory, game theory along with statistics in panel data, computational Bayesian and recent developments in advanced machine learning techniques.

Unlike other institutions, SIAI provides AI educations in the context of business applications. We have organized cross-discipline projects with engineering and medical departments for self-driving module’s defensive driving and drug effectiveness through virtual human simulator. Both of which projects require not only aforementioned math, stat, and computational scientific hard skills but also practical business applications that every breaking new technology needs.

For the admission of the program, students are required to pass the admission examination with over 60% performacne. The exam will be similar to final exams of last two courses in PreMSc - STA511 and STA512

Admission examination

All incoming students, regardless of one's own background, must pass an admission examination led by GIAI's LMS division

The exam contents are mostly from STA511 and STA512, the last two courses from PreMSc.

Details of exam schedule can be found on SIAI's annual notices for the following year's admission. Please refer the SIAI homepage, if you are looking for the recent notices.

Although the exam is take home, our past stats indicate less than 10% of success rate. Thus, we strongly recommend students to start from PreMSc, or simply go for AI MBA that offers nearly equivalent coursework with PreMSc.

Graduation requirement

The program is consisted of total 12 courses and 1 final dissertation, each carrying 5 ECTS and 30 ECTS, respectively. Students are given to finish the course work (60 ECTS in total) within 12 months, as two coureses are simultaneously given in every 2 months. The school allows additional 12 months of extension to successfuly finish the coursework requirements. Minimum pass grade for each course is 50% or C- in letter grade. Students with lower than 50% must re-take the course in the following year.

Regarding dissertation, each student can choose to write the academic paper during the coursework period or after all courses, depending on one's own schedule. Together with the coursework, students must finish all 90 ECTS requirements by the end of 4th year. The school does not issue the certificate of graduation after that.
